Welcome to the Auto Trader Kilimanjaro Trek 2010
On the 31st January 2010 15 of our employee’s will fly out to Tanzania, to attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest freestanding mountain & Africa’s highest peak Mt. Kilimanjaro. Standing at 5895m, its snow capped summit rises high above the dusty plains and huge permanent glaciers flow down from the summit. The Kilimanjaro team will face a challenging trek at extreme altitude, pushing them to the limits both physically and mentally.
The trek will take them on the less-trodden Machame route were terrain & conditions change as they ascend the mountain. They will pass through thick forest were there will face extreme humidity, then next passing through moorland and scree were temperatures slowly drop ever closer to freezing point, all this en route to the highest point of the crater, Uhuru Peak, where the temperature plummets to around -20 to -30 degrees at times. The team have been training now for nearly over 10 months and have recently successfully completed there altitude training.
Over the coming months you will be able to follow the teams training progress leading up to the trek, you will also be able to follow there every step up the mountain as they bring you live updates from the mountain with pictures, videos and twitter updates on daily basis.
You will be able to follow there every step up the mountain as they bring you live updates direct from Mt. Kilimanjaro with pictures and twitter updates on daily basis. The Trek is in support of Willowbrook Hospice based in St Helens & unlike some charity events tour costs are already covered meaning all the money we raise will go directly to Willowbrook.
